The origins of modern day folklore is always interesting.
DID YOU KNOW: There were multiple books telling the story of Christian creation, most prominently The Book of Genesis and the Book of Enoch (eventually MAN decided the Book of Genesis was the right telling…but I’m not going to get into why religion is a bunch of bullshit).  The Book of Enoch told a similar story of Adam and Eve but instead of making Eve first, god made Lilith.  This part is a bit hazy for me as it’s be years since I was deep in all this theology (and have never read Enoch) but I think Lilith fled Paradise because Adam would not treat her as an equal, even though they were made of the same Earth.  Eventually Lilith turned into this creature and somehow made an arrangement with the Angels sent to retrieve her  that she would not harm anyone but babies in their first days.  The word “lullaby” means “Lilith begone” and was used to try and ward her from diseasing young children.
Lilith appears in many, especially Hebrew, myths as a demon who steals children’s souls at night but considering the Book of Enoch was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls, which predates many of those myths.  I find it kind of fascinating that we still use a word that’s been derived from a book of the Apocrypha.
Anyway, TIL.
